WASHINGTON COMMANDERS • QB FUTURE
Jayden Daniels' Biggest Opponent Might Be Availability.
Washington's season changed the moment Jayden Daniels went down against Dallas. The Commanders are 0-2, Daniels has another dislocated left elbow, and it is the same elbow that gave him problems last season. Initial X-rays showed no fracture, but the team is still waiting on specialist evaluations to determine the full damage and timetable.
Marcus Mariota is good enough to keep Washington competitive for a stretch. He can win games, manage the offense and keep the season from immediately collapsing. But there is a difference between surviving a few weeks and building an entire season around the backup quarterback. If Daniels is gone for a major chunk of the year — especially if he is lost for the season — Washington's ceiling changes completely.
4DK TAKEThe RG3 comparison is not a career verdict. It is a warning sign. Washington has another electric young quarterback whose availability is becoming part of the conversation far too early.
The answer cannot be to take away everything that makes Daniels special. His legs are part of his game. The answer has to be balance: fewer unnecessary hits, smarter designed-run usage and an offense that allows him to win from the pocket without asking him to play conservatively.
And if the injuries continue? Washington eventually has to protect the franchise, not just the player. That could mean looking at a quarterback in the 2027 draft as legitimate insurance. Not because the Commanders should give up on Daniels — but because a team cannot afford to enter every season without a serious contingency plan if its franchise quarterback cannot consistently stay on the field.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS • OFFENSIVE BALANCE
Kenneth Walker Might Be The Piece That Makes KC Complete.
Patrick Mahomes still runs the show. That part has not changed. What has changed is how much Kansas City can ask the rest of the offense to carry. In the 33-30 overtime win over Indianapolis, Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns, Travis Kelce went over 100 yards, and Kenneth Walker III rushed for 117.
Walker gives Kansas City something Mahomes has rarely had at this level: a back who can legitimately command 20 carries, create his own yards and remain useful as a receiver. That matters even more with Mahomes coming off a serious knee injury. The goal should not be to run Walker into the ground. The value is that Kansas City now has another answer when a defense wants to make Mahomes work for every yard.
4DK TAKEKelce is still Mahomes' security blanket in the passing game. Walker might be the security blanket for the entire offense.
A healthy Rashee Rice adds another layer. Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton can stress defenses vertically, Kelce still owns the middle of the field, and Walker forces linebackers and safeties to respect the run and play-action. The result may not be the most explosive Chiefs offense of the Mahomes era — the Tyreek Hill years set a ridiculous standard — but it has a chance to be the most balanced.

RAIDERS + CHARGERS • TWO TEAMS, TWO DIRECTIONS
There Is Hope In Vegas. There Is Pressure In L.A.
The Raiders are 2-0 for the first time since 2021, and this does not feel like a team winning by accident. Klint Kubiak has brought structure. Kirk Cousins gives the offense a veteran quarterback who understands the system and can mentor Fernando Mendoza. Ashton Jeanty gives them a young centerpiece in the backfield. The defense has played fast and physical, with Maxx Crosby and the front setting the tone.
Cousins has thrown six touchdowns through two games, and the Raiders' defense forced three turnovers in the 26-14 win over the Chargers. Vegas does not need to be declared a playoff team in September. But if this group gets to Week 7 sitting at 4-3 or 5-2, the conversation changes.
THE MEASURING STICKWeek 4 at home against Kansas City is the game that can tell us how real the Raiders' start is. Can this defense hold up against Mahomes, Walker, Kelce and a balanced Chiefs offense?
The other side of that game is the Chargers, and the questions are getting louder. Justin Herbert is 28, he is in Year 7, and he is still looking for his first playoff victory. Los Angeles has started 0-2 while Herbert has opened the season with 401 passing yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Herbert has had legitimate excuses over the years: defensive failures, injuries around him and instability. Those factors matter. But at some point the evaluation has to include the quarterback too. If the Chargers slide to 0-4, the conversation will not just be about fixing September. It will become a bigger question about the direction of the Herbert-Harbaugh era and how long Los Angeles is willing to wait for postseason results.

LOS ANGELES RAMS • NFC CONTENDER
Davante Adams Just Reminded The League Why The Rams Are Dangerous.
One ugly opening night did not erase what the Rams have on paper. Monday night was the reminder. With Puka Nacua out, Davante Adams exploded for 195 yards and two touchdowns while Matthew Stafford threw for 327 yards and four scores in a 28-6 win over the Giants. Aaron Donald made his season debut, and Los Angeles looked a lot more like the contender everybody expected.
When Puka returns, there is no reason to force a WR1/WR2 hierarchy. Puka was an All-Pro last season. Davante led the Rams with 14 receiving touchdowns. Kyren Williams is still in the backfield. Stafford has enough experience to simply attack the matchup that the defense gives him.
4DK TAKELet both wideouts cook. Puka can dominate volume and Davante can destroy matchups outside and in the red zone. The balance is the weapon.
The real challenge is health — and the NFC West. Last season Seattle went 14-3 while the Rams and 49ers both went 12-5, and the Rams eventually had to travel to Seattle for the NFC Championship, where they lost 31-27. That is why the Week 1 loss to San Francisco matters beyond one bad night. In this division, one head-to-head result can be the difference between home-field advantage and spending January on the road.
The Rams have Super Bowl talent. Their path gets much easier if they stay healthy and win enough division games to control where that postseason path is played.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS • QUEST FOR SIX
The 49ers Look Complete. Now They Have To Stay That Way.
Through two games, San Francisco has looked as complete as anybody in football. Brock Purdy looks healthy, comfortable and accurate. He followed the Week 1 win over the Rams with a 20-of-22, 287-yard, two-touchdown performance against Miami. His chemistry with George Kittle is still there, Deebo Samuel has stepped right back into the offense, and Mike Evans has given the passing game another productive veteran target.
Even with injuries at receiver, the offense has not had to lean on Christian McCaffrey the way it has in the past. That is a good thing. CMC played every game in 2025 and finished with more than 2,100 yards from scrimmage, but he is now 30 and has absorbed a huge workload over his career. A quieter September is a worthwhile trade if it gives San Francisco a fresher McCaffrey in January.
The defense has been just as impressive. Holding the Rams to seven points in Week 1 was a statement. Fred Warner has looked like himself, and Nick Bosa has started well after an injury-filled 2025.
THE ONLY REAL RED FLAGHealth. It has derailed too many 49ers seasons to ignore. The question is not how good this roster looks in September. It is how much of this roster is still available in December.
That is also why San Francisco should stay aggressive near the trade deadline if a useful piece becomes available. Another receiver would protect them against the injuries already hitting that room. A more dependable backup running back could help reduce the regular-season burden on McCaffrey. The 49ers do not need a superstar addition. They may only need one more piece that keeps the offense from losing an option when the attrition of a long season hits.
By the early eye test, this is a team with everything needed to chase a Super Bowl. The next four months are about making sure enough of it survives.
